Burnout Isn’t the Problem—It’s the Symptom

How I Finally Stopped Spinning My Wheels

We live in a world that glorifies “doing it all.” Somewhere along the way, I internalized the message that the more I could juggle, the more worthy I’d be. And so, I became the woman who wore every hat—mother, professional, entrepreneur, caretaker, friend—all while pretending I wasn’t drowning. Meanwhile, I was struggling to float.

For years, I was balancing a demanding corporate job with the demands of motherhood. I’d clock out of one full-time job only to clock into another at home—navigating homework, dinner, baths, bedtime routines, meltdowns, and endless laundry. The days never felt long enough, yet somehow, they stretched on endlessly. Every night I collapsed into bed exhausted, and every morning I woke up more tired than the day before. I have never understood how I could get a night of sleep and still wake up feeling like I needed more.

I was a single mom during that season, and the weight of being the sole provider, the nurturer, the disciplinarian, the everything—it was suffocating. I thought I just needed better time management. Maybe a new planner, a more disciplined routine, or another productivity hack. But, regardless of what I tried, I couldn’t shake the overwhelm.

For the longest time, I believed burnout was my problem. But what I’ve come to realize is that burnout wasn’t the problem—it was the symptom. Burnout was my body’s way of waving a red flag, screaming for my attention. It wasn’t just about being tired. It was about being disconnected. Disconnected from my needs. Disconnected from my joy. Disconnected from the version of me I knew deep down I was meant to be. I had been so busy performing, pleasing, and proving that I lost touch with myself. And no amount of pushing could fill that gap.

Burnout doesn’t happen because we’re weak. It happens because we’ve been strong for too long without support. It’s what happens when you’re doing double shifts—with no off-switch. It’s what happens when you’re waking up early to answer emails, showing up at work with a smile, then rushing home to be mom, chef, tutor, therapist, and referee. It’s what happens when every moment of your day belongs to someone else—and there’s nothing left for you.

And when you hit that wall, you think something’s wrong with you. But the truth is, there’s nothing wrong with you. Burnout is simply an invitation to come home to yourself.

Everything shifted for me when I stopped asking, “How can I fit more in?” and started asking, “What can I let go of?” I began releasing the need to be everything for everyone. I allowed myself to rest—without guilt. I learned to say no. I started asking for help. Slowly, I stopped spinning my wheels. I stopped surviving and started living with intention. And you know what? The world didn’t fall apart. In fact, it got clearer. I got clearer. I realized that I didn’t have to earn rest. I didn’t have to prove my worth through exhaustion. I was worthy simply because I exist.

If you’re feeling burned out, overwhelmed, like you’ve lost yourself in the shuffle of life, I want you to know you’re not broken. You don’t need to try harder. You don’t need to push through. You need space to breathe. You need support. You need someone to remind you that you’re allowed to choose yourself. You’re allowed to rest. You’re allowed to heal.
